概要 Cavitas biosensors, which are strategically affixed to anatomical cavities, such as ocular contact lenses and intraoral mouthguards, have garnered significant attention as cutting-edge non-implantable medical devices, suitable for routine medical use. The term “cavitas” originates from Latin and refers to a cavity. The cavitas sensors collectively provide biological information from within body cavities, which was originally proposed by the research group of Prof. Mitsubayashi. Contact lens sensors utilizing electrical methods have been developed for monitoring chemicals such as glucose, as well as electrical conductivity in tear fluid and transcutaneous gases at the eyelid mucosa. Furthermore, a novel detachable mouthguard biosensor has been developed with the aim of facile application to the human oral cavity, allowing for non-invasive monitoring of salivary glucose levels. In this chapter, we discuss the challenges associated with integrating biosensors into the monitoring of biological information form body cavities. The utilization of wearable and self-detachable cavitas sensors holds promise for enhancing the quality of life in the near future.
