| 概要 | The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of the Proteus effect produced in a virtual reality (VR) environment on somatic pain perception sensitivity and autonomic nerve activity. We measured and compared pain detection thresholds and finger plethysmography in response to low frequency galvanic stimulation using a child avatar, a normal body type avatar, and a muscular avatar. Results demonstrated that avatar appearance altered pain detection thresholds and autonomic nerve activity. It might be possible to apply the Proteus effect to pain management. |
